Luke Shriever is following in the tyre tracks of his big sister and now the talented BMX siblings are going to be racing for World Championship glory.

Just like his sister Bethany achieved in the 14 years category in 2013, 12-year-old Luke has been crowned as the 2015 UEC BMX European champion after triumphing at Erp in Holland.

The TNT BMX Club youngster from Finchingfield said: “It went really well and I won every race, but I was a bit nervous for the final.

“It just gives me so much confidence and I’ll now be able to have the ‘E1’ plate on the front of my bike for the next year.

“That’s brilliant and a real boost for me before I go to the World Championships next week.”

And Bethany was impressed to see her brother match her European achievement.

She said: “It was amazing to see him do it and having done it myself, I knew how he felt.

“He worked really hard and even though he was given a bad gate in the final, he didn’t give in and led all the way.”

Luke is now heading to the UCI World BMX Championships in Belgium next week and will be joined in the British ranks in Zolder by Ultimate BMX rider Bethany as they look to make it double Worlds joy in the Shriever household.

However, Bethany, who is a member of British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme (ODP), will line up after coming back from twin injury setbacks in the last 12 months.

Having returned from breaking her leg for a second time and having a metal plate inserted into it, the 16-year-old then fractured her wrist and the protective cast was only removed just in time for her to compete at the Worlds.

She said: “I had the metal plate put into my leg, which will stay forever, and that healed well, but I then fell awkwardly in practice at a national event in Peckham a few weeks ago.

“Thankfully I’ve had the cast taken off in time to let me compete at the World Championships, though."
