Alex Lynn says he and his DAMS Racing team need to be more “clinical” to make sure they get the best out of their fast car in the remainder of the GP2 Series championship.

The Formula One feeder championship moves with the F1 calendar to Austria this weekend and Dunmow driver Lynn will be on the grid looking to right some wrongs from the previous round in Monaco four weeks ago.

It was a poor qualifying session on the streets of the iconic city circuit, when a communication error between Lynn and his race engineer left them down in 17th rather than on the front row of the grid where they felt their pace should have put them.

And with overtaking chances at a premium, the 21-year-old, who is also development driver for the Williams Martini Racing F1 team, was only able to take 13th and 11th in the two races and left the Principality without a point.

It was far from the follow-up to his maiden GP2 win that he had enjoyed at the previous round in Spain and while Lynn stayed fifth in the overall championship standings, he said he and the team had been working hard to iron out any creases.

He said: “I’ve done a lot of work with the team to right any wrongs that we’ve had and now we can push on to start turning our potential into results.

“We have had a lot of pace in qualifying and in race trim, but not backing that pace up with results.

“It’s a really fast car so we’ve been looking at what we need to do to get it right and to maximise the points we’re taking.

“The speed of the car itself is there, it’s just that we’re not bringing it all together. It’s just operational things with the way we operate and communicate within the team.

“We just need to be a bit more clinical with how we do things."

Qualifying at the Red Bull Ring will take place at 2.55pm (British time) on Friday, with the feature race starting at 2.20pm on Saturday and the sprint race at 9.35am on Sunday.
