Danny Cowley says he is closing in on completing his first Braintree Town signing.

The Iron’s new boss has been busy building his squad and is confident that he will be able to unveil his first new addition since taking over as manager three weeks ago.

He said that the first signing would be a forward and was hoping to be able to announce it properly by the end of the week, but he said plenty of patience was required during summer negotiations with new players.

He said: “We are closing in on a new forward and we have been speaking to three or four others this week, but the nature of the budget that we have to work with means we have to play a waiting game and you do have to have patience.

“I’m not the most patient of people but getting value for money is important and we have to make sure we are getting the right players in.

“We are clear about what we want and we need to make sure we are making the right decisions.

“It’s important when signing anyone that we do a lot of work on their personality as well as their playing attributes.

“So we’ve been doing a lot of talking because it’s important that we make the right signings.

“There won’t be too many because we’re pleased to have kept the core of the group together, but the ones we do make have to be the right ones.”
