Braintree Golf Club advanced to the third round of the Leslie Wood Trophy with an 11-4 victory over Woodford at Stisted.
The foundation for the win was established with a 5-0 success in the morning foursomes, before Phil Townsend won by seven and six, Andrew Goldsmith four and two and John Lagden three and two in the afternoon singles.
“This was a fine victory,” said Braintree captain Alistair Stalker. “I would like to thank the tremendous support that was received on the day, especially from those who caddied.”
Braintree will now be away to Nazeing in round three on June 7.
The final of the seniors’ Winter League singles saw Phil Townsend beat Terry Barke by one hole.
However, there was consolation for Barke in the final of the seniors’ Pairs Knockout when he and Basil Skipp overcame Derek Adams and Len Grindal three and two.
Braintree seniors won by half a point in their match against Clacton and they followed that with a 6½– 1½ victory over Haverhil.
