There may be a changed look to Braintree Cricket Club’s batting line-up as they look to bounce back from their first Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two defeat of the season.

Braintree lost out by five runs in a tight encounter at Copford last weekend and vice-captain Will Jackson said there would be some changes made for their home game against bottom side Lakenheath today.

He said: “It was very tight against Copford, but it was a game we should have won. When you keep a team down to 140, you should be able to chase it down, but we didn’t fire with the bat.

“The bright side was that we bowled and fielded brilliantly and seven wickets for Barry Stephens means he’s taken 16 in four games so far, which is incredible.

“However, our batting hasn’t clicked so far this year.

“We won the first three games, but we were dug out by some individual performances.

“That didn’t happen at Copford so we’ll look to change things up in the order this week.”

Jackson said skipper Nick Butler would be unavailable against Lakenheath, with Dan Chalk, who has been scoring freely for the seconds in recent weeks, coming into the first team.
