Danny Cowley says a new striker may be on his Braintree Town shopping list as Charlie Strutton continues his rehabilitation from an ankle operation.

The new Iron manager has been busy crafting his squad in the two weeks since he took the helm and has confirmed that the majority of last year’s players will be staying for his first season in charge.

However, there are a couple of areas that he may need to strengthen and he said that one of those was in his strike force.

Sean Marks and Jordan Cox have committed themselves for next season, but Strutton is recovering from the ankle operation that sidelined him at the end of last season.

Cowley said: “We have been talking with a specialist with Charlie and we have a clear plan for his rehabilitation, but I may bring in another centre forward.

“I don’t think he’ll be ready for the start of pre-season, but Charlie is fully committed and he’s doing work every day to get back.”

Cowley also confirmed that he is looking to add an extra right-sided midfielder with a doubt hanging over the return of James Mulley and a central defender is also on his list after the departure of Alan Massey.

Massey is one of three players who won’t be returning next season.

Dan Walker has left the Iron after ending the season on loan at Eastleigh, while Massey and full-back Ryan Peters have moved to Maidenhead to link up again with former Iron boss Alan Devonshire.
