Alex Lynn will have his sights set on two key goals when his Formula One dreams take another significant step forward today.

The 21-year-old from Dunmow will be taking his place in the seat of the Williams Martini Racing FW37 race car at the official F1 test at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in Spain.

It is the same venue where Lynn drove to his maiden race victory in the GP2 Series on Sunday and while success in that championship remains his main target this year, it is his role as the Williams development driver where he will have his focus today.

Lynn is hoping to make the step up into the top tier of single-seater motorsport in the next couple of years so will be keen to impress his watching bosses at Williams.

It is a big opportunity for him in only his second test in an F1 car after completing a session for Lotus in Abu Dhabi at the end of last season.

However, the Essex driver knows what his principle role in the official test is and feedback to the team on upgrades to the FW37 car that are being introduced for the start of the European phase of the F1 season will be paramount.

“Felipe Massa’s race engineer will be running my full test so it’s an official F1 test which is very exciting,” he said.

“There are new components on the car from last weekend as the first upgrades are available once the calendar comes back to Europe and my job will really be to validate those for the team.

“I have to show the team what they need to know from the changes, but it’s also a chance for me to impress the team.

“It’s a chance for me and up to me to show what I can do.”
