NEW Braintree Town boss Danny Cowley has stressed he will not make changes for the sake of it this summer.

Cowley is keen to keep the nucleus of the current Iron squad together, following his appointment as the Vanarama Conference club’s new manager.

The former Concord Rangers boss has already met with each Braintree player, after replacing Alan Devonshire in the hot seat.

And Cowley has made keeping hold of the club’s key players one of his top priorities this summer.

He said: “I won’t make change for the sake of change. I see a lot of non-league managers who think the grass is always greener.

“I like to get a group together and try to work with them.

“We have got good players here and the first challenge is to try and keep the group together.

“From my point of view, I look back at the success we had at Concord Rangers.

“I think the key to success is knowing how you achieved it. Once you know how you’ve achieved it, you can then replicate it.

“One of the cornerstones of our success was continuity.

“In eight years, we went from a Step Five club in the Essex Senior League, all the way through to a Conference South team.

“Three or four of the players were with us for the whole eight years and certainly in three or four seasons, we kept the group together.

“Player relationships on and off the pitch only grow through time and spirit and togetherness is something that’s key to a club like this.”

Speculation has linked Cowley with a swoop for some of his former Concord players, who performed so well in Conference South this season. And Cowley, who won three promotions in eight years with the Beach Boys, did not rule out the prospect of raiding his old club.

Cowley added: “I won’t look to rip the heart out of Concord Rangers – I don’t think that would be right.

“Having said that, if I feel that anyone can improve this football club, I’ll look to bring them in.”
