There was a home victory as Braintree-based triathlon and multi-sport club, Born2Tri, ran its fourth Spring Duathlon at Great Notley Country Park.

Although the weather was unseasonably cold and wet this didn’t dampen the spirits of the 170 competitors who lined up on the start line for the event that featured two running sections either side of a bike leg.

Overall men’s winner was Lee Shipp from Diss Cycling Club, but home favourite Melissa Dowell, from Born2Tri, took ladies’ honours and also won the title for fastest female veteran.

The men’s veteran category was won by West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club’s Matt Shingleton, who is also a former member of the host club.

Born2Tri’s next event is an open water sprint and standard events at Gosfield Lake on July 5, with an Autumn Duathlon taking place at Great Notley Country Park on October 4.

Entries are open now and all the details about these events and Born2Tri can be found at www.born2tri.com
