Braintree Town's new manager is Danny Cowley.

The Times can reveal that the club have made their appointment after the departure of Alan Devonshire two weeks ago and have decided to go with one of the most talked about young managers in Essex.

Devonshire's shoes may be big ones to fill, but Cowley comes to the Iron job with an impressive list of achievements already on his CV.

He has been at Concord Rangers for eight seasons, taking over as joint manager when Concord were playing Essex Senior League football and has led them to the brink of the top tier of the non-league game.

Forced to retire early with hamstring and back troubles after a career that included Dagenham & Redbridge, Harlow Town and AFC Hornchurch, Cowley has taken to management like a duck to water.

He took Concord to ninth in their first season in the Conference South last year after turning down the chance to manage Chelmsford City in 2013 and the Canvey side are set to better that this year.

He also led Concord to the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history earlier this campaign.

Cowley will have a chance to meet his new squad at the Braintree Town end-of-season get-together tonight.
