Braintree Football Club had a bad day at the office in their Braintree Open Darts League match against the Swan as they lost the pairs 3-0 and the triples, followed by a 7-0 loss in the singles.

A win in the ladies for the Eagle at Cressing, followed by a 2-1 win in the pairs had the visitors off to a flying start.

However, with the hosts winning the triples and the singles 5-2, Cressing had the overall match won.

The ladies of Welsh Princess and Notley Sports played out a draw before Notley won the pairs 2-1, but the Welsh came back with a win in the triples.

The opening singles saw Notley’s Stewart Thorogood chalk up a 2-0 win over Brendan Hands, before Alan Dewar took the second for the Welsh with a 2-1 win over Ted Ullmer but wins for Notley’s Nev Walker and Graham Chinnery gave the visitors the advantage.

Bruce Mawdsley reduced the deficit for the Welsh with a win in the fifth game but Notley’s Dave Islip and George Cox won their games to wrap up the singles and overall match honours.

A draw in the ladies’ match between the Retreat and visiting Queen’s Head was followed by a 3-0 win in the pairs and a triples success for the Retreat.

The opening singles saw the Retreat’s Peter Webb beat Garry Deal 2-1 in a win that included a 14-dart leg for Webb.

Steve O’Neil won the second game for the Retreat before the Queen’s Head’s Richard Whitfield took the next, however, the hosts won the remaining four to claim singles and overall match honours.

Andy Camp and Graham Chinnery scored 180s and Cressing’s Tony Bamsey hit a 116 out shot.
