Blue Hornets Felsted Hockey Club once again had a hugely successful time at the Brentwood Indoor Tournament.

The annual tournament sees the premier youth indoor hockey teams from the South of England competing for the title over three days and Blue Hornets Felsted – the youth section of Phoenix Hockey Club – saw considerable success.

The club’s under-12 girls started by rounding off the Friday as champions.

Having won their group with four convincing victories, they went on to beat Reading 2-1 and Hertford 3-1 in the play-offs.

The following day saw the under-14 boys join them as champions.

They took the difficult route, though, slipping up to Canterbury 1-0 in the qualifying round.

However, with wins against Brentwood, Crostyx and Old Elthamians, they ended top of their group before convincingly beating Hertford 3-0 in the final.

Blue Hornets’ under-ten girls were unfortunate to come only second after having beaten eventual champions Canterbury and were only pipped to the title on goal difference by only one strike.

The under-ten boys were a very young team with many being under-nine players, but still came third, a result matched by the under-12 boys, who came second in their qualifying pool and took bronze with a comfortable win over Hertford. The Hornets’ under-14 girls came fifth in their competition after meeting tough opposition from Old Loughts and Harleston Magpies, who would both expect to be in national finals at under-16 level.

The under-16 boys also played well and were very unlucky to be outside the medals after losing 4-3 to Ipswich in the bronze medal play-off.
