Braintree Bowmen’s Richard Burgess secured a new Essex record on his way to claiming 12th place in the overall standings in the British Barebow Indoor Championships.

The championships are run at several locations simultaneously throughout the country, with medals awarded for session winners and overall combined results and Burgess was competing in the Southern Counties Tournament at Malgrave Archers.

It attracted archers from Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Kent, Suffolk, Surrey, Middlesex and Essex.

Burgess managed a score of 485 to win the morning session and helped him earn 12th place in the overall results against all archers competing across the country and he esd placed eighth in the masters category.

The score was also 14 points better than the previous Essex county record that had stood for five years.
