Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire has said he will include some first-team players in the Iron’s side when they head to Tilbury in the Essex Senior Cup third round tonight.

The game is a rearranged fixture after the initial attempt to play the game was scuppered by a waterlogged pitch at the Dockers’ Chadfields ground two weeks ago.

Both Braintree and Ryman League division one north side Tilbury will be bidding to set up a fourth-round home tie against Thurrock, with the Iron hoping to repeat last year’s run that took them to the final of the county cup.

However, they head into the game on the back of back-to-back Vanarama Conference Premier defeats by Welling and Woking, when the Iron have been unable to turn chances into goals and Devonshire knows his players have to do better up front.

The Essex Senior Cup tie will be their only outing for two weeks and although the initial tie only saw three first-team players due to travel to Tilbury, the Braintree boss has said he will give others a run-out tonight if he feels they need it.

He said: “We haven’t scored in the last two, which is disappointing after the wins we had against Wrexham and Telford, but all we can do is dust ourselves down and get ready for the next one.

“We have the game against Tilbury and those that need a game will get one, but the rest will be doing training and we’ll prepare for the FA Trophy game, which is the next one up.”
