Witham MP Priti Patel has been named as the new chairman of Witham Town Football Club.

The Member of Parliament for Witham is set to take over the role that has been vacant since the death of former chairman Tony Last in July.

Witham manager Garry Kimble said that she has been named as chairman elect and her position is expected to be ratified at a Emergency General Meeting at the Village Glass Stadium on Monday, October 27.

The Conservative MP has held a junior ministerial role in the Government since July when she was made Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.

Witham are due to be in Ryman League Cup action tonight when manager Garry Kimble will pit his wits against a Maldon and Tiptree side managed by his twin brother Alan.
