Witham Cricket Club captain Leroy Facey says his team won’t head into their final game of the season in a defensive frame of mind.

The latter part of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship season has seen Witham battling to stay clear of the division one relegation zone and a ten-wicket win against already-relegated Lakenheath last weekend went a long way to ensuring their safety.

However, they still need another three points to make sure second-from-bottom side Haverhill can’t catch them and Facey said they will go into their last game at Frinton looking to secure their position.

That task won’t be helped by the fact that they are facing a Seasiders team who are sitting top of the table and going for the title, but the Witham skipper added that his players won’t go to Ashlyns Road on the back foot on Saturday (start 12.30pm).

He said: “It’s a difficult one as it’s only three points that we need to be safe, but it’s dangerous to go into a game thinking you only need three points.

“That’s when you can slip up.

“So we will turn up trying to win the game and will go to Frinton thinking that Haverhill will get 20 points."
