Alex Lynn showed on the GP3 Series podium how much his win at Spa-Francorchamps meant to him as he extended his overall lead in the championship driver standings.

The 20-year-old from Dunmow came away from the Belgium circuit with a 32-point advantage after an eighth place in the feature race was followed by a victory in race two.

Lynn showed how much that win meant to him on the Spa podium and he explained that it was the manner of the win that brought out the emotional response.

The Carlin team driver had a race-long battle with Status Grand Prix’s Richie Stanaway, the driver sitting second in the standings, and after losing the lead to his rival following a mistake early on, Lynn battled back to take the chequered flag and an important points haul.

He said: “I think my reaction was mainly due to the fact that the race had been a straight fight between myself and Richie.

“We’ve been the top two drivers in the championship, but we haven’t really been close to each other out on the circuit and this was a chance to have a battle between ourselves.

“So to win was very pleasing."
