Witham Cricket Club’s players will have to respond in the right way once again.
A six-wicket defeat by Sudbury on Saturday was Witham’s eighth loss of the season in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one and they now face an important home game against Maldon tomorrow.
The visitors are one of only three teams below Witham in the table and they know a big points haul would help keep them clear of the drop zone.
It isn’t the first time this season that Witham have found themselves in this position where they have lost and then had to bounce back in games against sides below them and captain Leroy Facey is calling on his players to respond once more.
He said: “Our season won’t be defined by games like the one at Sudbury.
“It is against sides in and around us that will decide whether we stay up or not and that makes this weekend against Maldon a big one for us.
“We weren’t happy with how we played at their place so this is a perfect opportunity to put it right."
