Witham Cricket Club captain Leory Facey wants to remind his players that they are good enough to compete against the best in the top flight of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Facey admitted to being disappointed by his team’s ten-wicket defeat by Mistley last weekend and wants them to show more belief in their own abilities.

Witham have shown in recent seasons that they have enough quality in their ranks to go toe-to-toe with division one’s strongest sides, but Facey feels their players may not realise that at the moment.

“I was disappointed if I’m honest,” he said.

“We were 50-odd without loss and ended up being 88 for five and that’s just not good enough.

“It’s more difficult to take this result than some of the others we’ve had this year.

“Mistley are a side who are always up towards the top end of the table and we seem to have a bit of a problem playing sides like that at the moment.

“We’ve lost a bit of belief that we can compete against the top sides and we need to show more character."
