Witham Town manager Garry Kimble admits his team may miss the goals of Kris Newby and James Stevens after last season’s leading scorers looked set to have left this summer.

Kimble revealed a few weeks ago that Stevens was heading to Conference South side Chelmsford City for pre-season and it is also looking likely that Newby will be on his way as well. Ryman League division one north side AFC Sudbury have announced that they have signed the former East Thurrock midfielder and while Kimble couldn’t confirm where he was actually going, he said it was unlikely that he would be back at Witham next year.

Newby made 29 appearances for Witham as they gained promotion from division one north to the premier division and scored 23 goals, while Stevens found the target 18 times from his 53 appearances from midfield.

And that’s a gap that Town now need to fill.
