Witham Town held on to the Ryman League division one north's top spot despite a derby day disappointment at local rivals Heybridge Swifts.
A 2-1 defeat wasn't what Witham wanted as they continue their bid to claim the league title, but their fate stayed in their own hands after second-placed VCD Athletic also lost.
VCD's 2-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Sudbury means that Witham can still win the title if they win their two remaining games - starting with Monday's home fixture against Wroxham.
Witham will go into that game with a one-point advantage over VCD, but they will need a better show than they had at Swifts.
The hosts took the lead in the first half with a goal by Reece Harris and then extended that in the 90th minute when Dumebi GB Dumaka made it 2-0.
Joe Sweeney's 94th minute strike did give Heybridge a more nervous ending than they may have liked, but they held out for the win to advance their own claims on a play-off place.
