Town miss out on final

Halstead Town were knocked out of the East Anglian Cup at the semi-final stage, after losing 1-0 to Leiston.

But manager Jody Brown was still pleased with his players' efforts, against Ridgeons League premier division opposition.

Brown said: "I was proud of my players.

"It was a chance to measure our progress against higher opposition and anyone there would have seen how well we played.

"They were hanging on and their keeper kept them in it - even when he didn't the woodwork did."

Halstead attacked strongly early on, with Danny Rochester going close.

And soon after, Mark Goldfinch had to make a timely intervention to intercept a dangerous Danny Rowell cross.

But with 20 minutes gone, Leiston struck what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Pip Boyland's fine cross found Luke Eagle, whose header was parried by goalkeeper Paul Rutherford.

That allowed Kelsey Trotter to fire in a shot which deflected off Halstead defender Phil Battell and flew in.

Halstead's chances suffered a further blow when John Pollard went off injured and Leiston pressed strongly with some very neat inter-passing.

But Halstead stood firm and Rochester was unlucky, with Stannard turning away a Rochester effort.

Late in the half both substitute Andy Joslin and Tom Austin limped out of the action but Halstead still pressed.

Rochester and Chris Bryan produced some good moves but Leiston's defence proved a tough nut to crack.

They held out to book a meeting with Brentwood in the final.
