Goal-less draw is damaging for Halstead
Halstead Town's promotion destiny is now out of their hands after a goal-less draw with Gorleston at Rosemary Lane.
Town chalked up their third consecutive clean sheet but will now need other results to go their way if they are to clinch promotion back to the premier division at the first time of asking.
Manager Jody Brown admitted it looks tough for his side now - but refused to give up the ghost.
He said: "The pitch made it difficult and probably played a big part in the scoreline. Promotion is out of our hands now but we will push until the last day - two wins could do it."
A hard surface did not lend itself to exciting football and chances were few and far between.
Halstead keeper Paul Rutherford tipped away a good effort from defender Luke Goreham.
And at the other end, defender Steff Falla came closest to breaking the deadlock for Town when his shot was blocked on the line by the legs of Tom Marsden.
Marsden then pushed away Chris Bryan's early effort, before Danny Rochester failed to score with only the keeper to beat.
As half-time approached Wayne Saunders sent Danny Rowell away down the left.
He beat two defenders but his dangerous low cross was not read by a team-mate and a good chance went begging.
Halstead started the second half in dangerous fashion and appeared to have a good call for a penalty waved away when Bryan was impeded by Goreham.
But as the game flowed back and forth there was little excitement at either end.
And even the introduction of substitutes by both sides failed to break the deadlock.
