A THRILLING SNEL Division Two season comes to an end tomorrow as Leigh-on-Sea look to upset the odds and survive relegation.

Dean Waller’s men have struggled for consistency all season and now find themselves needing to take maximum points against Gidea Park & Romford, while hoping other results go their way.

Leigh are currently bottom of the standings and 21 points off safety although Wickford, who occupy third from bottom, have excelled in recent weeks and are a win away from completing the most unlikely of survival stories.

But Waller says he must believe the team can do it.

“We haven’t been at our best this season and that is why we are in this position,” he said. “We had the talent to get promoted from this league and it has been so tight for long periods but we have not performed with the bat on too many occasions.

“We must just focus on getting maximum points and what happens in the other games is out of our control. It is the way it is.”

Wickford travel to Hainault & Clayhall and will fancy their chances after a string of wins boosted their survival chances.

Hainault & Clayhall are unbeaten in the last two matches however, and Wickford will not want to slip back into the drop zone on the final day after the hard work they have put in in recent times.

Old Southendian & Southchurch have enjoyed a relatively prosperous first campaign in the division, following their promotion last year.

They visit champions Belhus knowing they are not at risk of relegation but at the same time would like to hang onto their fourth position.

Horndon-on-the-Hill are another team not out of trouble yet, with just seven points separating them from the drop and second-bottom Harlow Town.

Horndon visit Hutton, who themselves are just two points ahead of the Thurrock side.
