CLACTON’S new British American Football team are holding a recruitment drive to try and attract new players.

The Clacton Comets will be staging open days from 12pm on March 4 and 11, at their base at Clacton Rugby Club.

Players and coaching staff will be on hand to hand out flyers, answer questions and anyone wanting to try the sport for themselves will have the chance to be put through their paces.

New players must be aged over 18.

Head coach, chairman and quarterback Alan Harris said: “I can’t wait for the recruitment days, to show people how easy it is to get involved.

“We have a great home ground, with full backing from the rugby club and their chairman, Brian White.

“We have 20 players on board at the moment and eight offers of games this year, including our first against the London Hornets on June 17.”

The Comets are already busy preparing for their first fixture in the British American Football League.

They also have plans to launch a junior team later in 2012.
