CLACTON Knights battled their way into the semi-finals of Britain’s biggest walking football tournament, at Margate.

They were up against 32 of the best walking football clubs across the UK, including Watford, Middlesbrough and West Ham.

Teams were split into four groups of eight, with the winners of each progressing to the semi-finals.

Clacton Knights started in group B and were handed a tough start against West Ham.

After beating the Hammers 3-1, they then brushed aside the next five teams to win their first six matches and sit top of the group.

Clacton's next match was against Wisbech and they only needed to avoid defeat to progress to the semis.

In a tough encounter, Clacton ended up 2-1 winners and booked their place in the last four against Dover Athletic.

Clacton won their last group match too to finish top and unbeaten.

The semi-finals were moved into Margate’s stadium and played in front of a decent crowd. First up was Watford against Middlesbrough.

Watford proved too strong and won 2-1, so were waiting in the final for the winners of Clacton and Dover.

The Kent side scored first in a very tight match, with few chances.

With minutes to go, Clacton pushed forward to try for an equaliser but were caught on the counter-attack.

Dover slotted home and sealed their place in the final by winning 2-0.

Watford won the final to become tournament champions.

Despite the disappointing ending, Clacton Knights could feel proud of their achievements and enjoyed a fantastic weekend of walking football.

Daryl Heffer was presented with the golden boot award for finishing as top goalscorer, with nine goals.

Anyone interested in joining Clacton Knights should visit the Coastal Academy in Jaywick Lane.
