CHELMSFORD Chieftains fell at the final hurdle after they were defeated in the National Ice Hockey League South 2 Wilkinson Play-Off final.

The Chieftains were unable to repeat their heroics of 24 hours earlier when they defeated Oxford City Stars.

Instead it was the Solent Devils that lifted the trophy following the full-time whistle.

On Saturday, the Chieftains were 5-2 winners against Oxford City Stars - Grant Bartlett scored a hat-trick while there were also goals for Anthony Leone and Mike Oravec.

The latter had briefly equalised in the final for Chieftains but Solent Devils powered away to win 6-1 and claim the league title.

A club spokesperson said: “Thank you to the whole team, you should be proud of yourselves. You have done incredibly.”
