Brandon Comley insists maintaining their League Two unbeaten run was a positive for Colchester United after their 0-0 draw against Morecambe.
The U’s have now not tasted defeat in their last five league matches, following their stalemate at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Comley, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Saturday, admits it was frustrating not to claim a home victory over a Shrimps side perched just above the relegation zone.
But the on-loan QPR midfielder says there were still good things to take from the U’s performance going into tomorrow night’s clash with Lincoln City.
Comley said: “For a team like us who have been doing well, it was a bit annoying that we didn’t reach the heights of what we normally do.
“But it happens during the season and it’s not like we’ve come here and lost.
“There are positives to take from it but obviously in the next game against Lincoln, we’ll be looking to improve.
“It was a positive to keep the unbeaten run going - we’re on such a high at the moment and trying to get into the play-offs.
“We’ll look at it as a point taken but we did miss out on the extra two.
“There’s another game on Tuesday and hopefully we can bounce back and forget about this one.
“When I first came here, we were maybe a little wary at the back but I feel like we’re all gelled and we’ve all bonded as a team.
“We’re not conceding many goals and if we do concede, it’s only the one.”
Comley is enjoying a run in Colchester’s starting line-up and has missed only one of their last seven games, the Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Southend United.
The former Grimsby Town loanee says he is relishing the opportunity to play regularly, with the U’s.
Comley, whose loan spell at Colchester is due to end next month, said: “I’m loving playing . Any footballer wants to do that and I feel like I’m doing alright at the moment.
“There’s always room for improvement but I feel like I’ve had a positive impact on the team and hopefully, that can continue.
“There’s a lot of quality in the midfield area and there’s a lot of people itching to get on and play.
“For me, it’s a positive because it keeps you on your toes and makes you want to keep that shirt – it’s only going to benefit the team in the long run.”
