HARWICH Boxing Club's Pat Allen Cripps began his first quest for national honours in the new amateur season at Dagenham's Roundhouse.

He was up against Attleborough ABC's Charlie Humphries, in the class D light heavyweight National Amateur Boxing Championship Anglia final.

Allen Cripps, 20, is currently ranked number seven in the British Isles and his class shone through in this three by three-minute round encounter.

Although Humphries had very little experience at this level, he was always in the hunt.

Nonetheless, Allen Cripps shook off some ring rust gained from the summer recess and comfortably booked his place in the next round via a unanimous points decision.

Joining him in the next round is welterweight Paul Gordon, who received a walkover with no opponent available in the Anglia round.
