MANNINGTREE gymnast Crystal Watts has won a county title - despite the fact she was competing for the first time in two years duo to injury.

The 14-year-old made her glorious comeback at the Suffolk County Gymnastics Championships, on Sunday.

She was crowned county champion - the first time anyone from her Sudbury Gymnastics Club has held such a title in 20 years.

Now Watts is looking forward to an exciting few weeks, as she is competing at the Thailand National Championships on September 22.

If successful, she hopes to earn selection for the Thai national squad, which could open the door for her to potentially compete at the South-East Asian Games, the Asian Games, the Junior World Championships, the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

She could become the first-ever gymnast from her club to make it to international level.

Former Manningtree High School student Watts competed in the fig challenge competition - the highest level competition - on Sunday.

She had not competed for two years because of a serious back injury - a bulging disc - and had never competed at this level before.

Nevertheless, she scored 47.30 - the highest score of the day for this level - to take the county title.
