Colchester United have bolstered their forward options with the capture of Wigan Athletic striker Mikael Mandron on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old Frenchman spent six months at the League One club, after joining them from  Eastleigh in January 2017.

Mandron arrived in England from France as a 16-year-old, after joining the Black Cats in 2011.

The 6ft 3in striker had a number of loan spells during his time at the Stadium of Light, playing for Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United.

He then left Sunderland to join non-league club Eastleigh, scoring ten times in 28 appearances for the Hampshire club before joining Wigan earlier this year for an undisclosed fee.

Now he will be hoping to score goals for Colchester in League Two, after becoming their fourth signing of the summer.

Colchester had been hoping to add to their attacking options, following the departure of last season's top scorer Chris Porter to Crewe Alexandra and Macauley Bonne, who left for Leyton Orient last week.
