BRAD Quinton wants to win back Braintree Town fans after returning to the club that he loves as the Iron’s new manager.

The Iron’s record appearance holder as a player is now looking to make as significant an impact from the dugout after being appointed as boss and he knows that hard work will be key to success for himself and his players.

The club’s board made the appointment after the departure of Hakan Hayrettin two weeks ago that came following their relegation from the Vanarama National League last season.

Quinton, who has been joined by another seasoned Iron veteran player - Andy Porter - as his assistant, is set to lead the team in the level below - most likely the National League South - and it is one that he knows well.

He has been cutting his managerial teeth at Enfield Town in the Ryman League premier division for the last three years, but helped carry Braintree to the Conference South title as a player in 2011.

That success, along with winning the Ryman League with the Iron, came as part of a glittering career of almost 550 appearances and he knows better than most what is expected by Iron fans.

He said: “You rarely get people in non-league spending that amount of time at one club as a player and it’s a very place special to me.

“I’ve gone away and learned my trade as a manager, but I always said that my ambition was to come back.

“I know the ethos of this club and I know what the fans expect.

“I know that there may be fans who have gone away from the club, but I want to bring them back.

“I want them to be watching enjoyable football and the players will know that if they do that and work hard then they will get their rewards from me and from the fans.

“The style of football I like is to get the ball down and to play with energy and pace.

“That’s something that I’ve brought in the teams that I’ve had as a manager and I think the fans will see different things.

“I have coaches who all sing off the same song sheet as me and the players will all see the same coaching methods throughout.

“I also like to see people who can play in different positions.

“Having a right-back who can only play at right-back isn’t what I want so I want people who can play those different positions and I demand an ethos from the players.

“I want them to play enjoyable football and that’s what I will get from them.

“I think the fans will love it.”
