MISTLEY enjoyed a thrilling victory in their North Essex League match at Clacton.

The Swans reached their winning total with a ball to spare.

Clacton won the toss and chose to bat in the bright sunshine.

Young bowler Oliver Fifield dismissed John Stuck for four, thanks to a sharp catch in the gully by captain Tim Scott.

He then bowled Clacton's other opener, Kieron Parkes.

George Hutton also took two wickets, bowling Daniel Smith and having Sam Foley caught by Giles Lennox.

Scott took his second catch of the innings to dismiss Haydn Erfurth off the bowling of Robin Mills, with Clacton finishing on 212 for five from their 40 overs.

Although Charlie Hawthorn did not pick up a wicket, he finished with economical bowling figures, having conceded just 21 runs from his six overs.

Scott and Hutton took the score to 52 before the former was out, stumped for 13.

This brought South African James Stamatis to the crease and, with wickets in hand, he was able to take the attack to the Clacton bowling.

Fortunate to be dropped at mid-on before scoring a run, five of his first seven scoring shots were boundaries.

Hutton reached a well-deserved 50 before being run-out on 51, having shared a partnership of 110 runs.

Stamatis blazed his way to 100, but was out LBW in the 38th over, having scored 111, including 15 fours and a six, leaving ten runs required.

Young batsman Tom Saville-Green, who had supported Stamatis in a partnership of 41, was stumped, having scored eight runs.

With six runs required from the last over, the calm Dylan Day hit the first ball for four and then took a single to make the scores level.

With the wicket of Lennox falling, new batsman Ciaran Johnston had two balls to get the winning run and did so by pushing his first ball into the off-side for a single.

On Sunday, the Swans are playing Bentley, from near Brentwood, in the regional semi-final of the Watsons National Village Cup, at New Road, starting at 1pm.
