FRINTON Golf Club's Peter Webster and Angela Vaughan hosted their last event as captains - the Captains' Swan Song.

It was a greensomes stableford, prior to the election of new captains at next week’s AGM.

There was a big turnout in spite of the high winds, which made the going more difficult.

Scoring was good, however, with 38 being the magic number.

There were two sets of prizes.

In the men’s competition, Mike Leonardi and Nigel Anderson won on countback with 38 points, just ahead of Peter Outtridge and Andy Hipkin.

Nigel Jackson and Ian Binns finished third, also on countback, with 36 points.

In the mixed and ladies' category, the mother and son pairing of Audrey and Adrian Joshua won, again on countback, with a good score of 38 points, just ahead of Donna and Toby Oliver. Donna’s newly-reduced handicap apparently didn’t hold her back.

The two captains, Webster and Vaughan, were in third place with 37 points.

On ladies' day, the format was a stableford and Donna Oliver had another good day, winning with 38 points.

Marie Ellis was in second place with 33 points and captain Vaughan was in third place with 32.

The final of the Easter-to-Easter round robin/knockout was played last week.

In a hard-fought match, Gavin Cowell and Caroline Grey emerged victorious 2&1 over the other finalists, Jan McLellan and Geoff Pigott.
