CHELMSFORD were comprehensively brushed aside 69-10 by third-placed Chingford in London 1 North.

Chingford ran in 10 tries to Chelmsford’s two. and struggled without influential fly half Simon Hoult.

Chelmsford played down the slope in the first half, but it was the visitors who started the game stronger.

Their first try came after eight minutes, following a poor tap back from a Chelmsford lineout. Chingford broke down the left to score although they failed to add the conversion.

Chelmsford’s restart kick went straight into touch in a sign of things to come before the away side increased their lead to 12-0.

It took 20 minutes for Chelmsford to put a move together, camped in the visitors 22 for about eight minutes.

Five penalties on the trot, mainly from pressure exerted in the scrum, saw them eventually score a try through skipper Paul Redford, who dived over from close range.

Chelmsford had a numerical advantage for 10 minutes after Chingford were shown a yellow card, but they couldn’t make it count and three tries in nine minutes killed the game off with Chelmsford trailing 31-5.

Just two minutes into the second-half, Chelmsford were pressured by the visitors in the left hand corner, which saw them crash over in the corner for a converted try taking them into a 38-5 lead.

Two tries in the space of two minutes brought the scoreline to 50-5 and Chingford went on to score three further tries and two conversions.

Chelmsford’s only score in the half was a try under the posts from Jamie Morrish.
