ESSEX University Boxing Club's latest heavyweight Harrison Pickett enjoyed a spectacular debut after winning his first-ever bout.

Pickett (101 kilogrammes) defeated the host club's Tom Bachelor (109kgs) in the first round in his bout at the Berinsfield gym, in Oxford.

The 22-year-old has been training hard for the last nine months and has been eager to display his learning.

From the opening bell, Pickett landed two left jabs finding his range.

Bachelor gave him his space and try to land punches of his own but the Essex University boxer was getting into his stride and looking to impose his way on his much bigger opponent.

Falling short with his jab, Bachelor was backed up and when Pickett landed two left jabs followed by an overhand right, the Berinsfield boxer went down on one knee, taking an eight count.

Upon rising, Pickett went after his man and when six punches landed with no response, the referee gave Batchelor another eight count.

It led to him stopping the bout in the Essex University boxer's favour, to ensure a very good debut for Pickett.
