NEW member Erica Beaumont won her first-ever competition after tasting victory in a 13-hole strings stableford at Clacton Golf Club.

The event was for the club's ladies' section and attracted 29 members.

Beaumont prevailed with 29 points.

In second was Mary Cole, with 27 points, on countback from third-placed Fiona Cope, on countback from fourth-placed ladies' champion Fay Trigg.

Meanwhile, lady captain Di Kedge welcomed Rob Keenan to receive a donation of £400 for the Essex Resettlement Centre.

Mr Keenan gave the ladies an insight into what his organisation aspire to achieve, by educating local homeless people to make a better life for themselves.

He said how grateful he was to receive the cheque and thanked all the ladies present.

Kedges has vowed to support as many charities as possible during her year in office.

Elsewhere, Clacton's seniors' section played their seventh Top Dogs event and the winners were William Damant and Brian Chapman, with 43 points.

In second were Dave Holden and Jim Wiggam, with 42, on countback from Malcolm Pitcher and Bill Highstead.

Clacton's men played their sixth Top Dogs event and the winners were Glen Harms and Robert Meekings, with 45 points, on countback from Andy Hobbs and Barry Hewitt, on countback from Mark Hulstrom and Richard Hart.
