THE morning pairings recorded the best scores as Colchester Golf Club hosted their annual Turkey Trot.

Nearly 150 members contested the foursomes bogey competition with two shotgun starts, in excellent conditions.

Mike Carroll and Jim Wilkinson took top spot in the morning, with an impressive score of plus six.

Steve Sharman and Alan Sharrocks were second with plus four, ahead of third-placed pairing Guy Lennox and Alan Irvine on plus three.

Peter Quinn and Scott Vass with plus two secured the morning’s fourth place.

The afternoon scores could not match the morning’s but it was the ladies who had all the glory.

Taking home the turkeys were Maureen Devenish and Sheila Dornan, whose plus three score was equalled by two other pairings.

In second place after the countback was Liz Lennox and Annie Johnston, with John Waterson and Ian Parry the first men to show in third.

Tom Rothery and Tony Jordan were fourth with a minus one score.

Waterson and Parry also doubled up on the nearest the pin prizes, with wins on the fourth and the eighth holes.

Norman Ryan and Alan Hyde took the 13th with Mandy Rix and Brendan Booth closest on the 16th.

Additional prizes in the afternoon rounds were awarded to the best-mixed pair of Paul Smith and Julie Ruscoe with minus two.

The best ladies overall went to Janet Austin and Shelley Persent, who also had a minus two score.

In the morning start, nearest the pins went to Louis Smit and Alan Tindall on the fourth, with Bob and John Bloomfield nearest on the eighth.

Don McBurney and Iain Cruickshank were closest on the 13th and on the 16th, it was Richard Watts and Robin Tucker.
