COLCHESTER 7

WALTHAM FOREST II 2

East Men's League division two south

COLCHESTER registered their first win since the opening day of the season after seeing off struggling Waltham Forest II at the Garrison.

The hosts bettered their victory over the same opponents earlier in the campaign, after getting back to winning ways in style.

Ben Parker, Richard Sexton, Alex Pink and Calum Totton all scored for Colchester in the first half.

And further goals from Parker, Sexton and Pink helped seal their victory, after the break.

It means Colchester will go into the league interval over Christmas and New Year on a high, after chalking up a long-awaited victory.

Skipper Dean Campbell said: "It's good to go into the break on a winning note.

"Admittedly, it was against the bottom of the table team who only had a bare XI but we've had to deal with that a bit ourselves, this season.

"We still have three players to come back into the team and it's positive - hopefully this will make selection decisions difficult, in the New Year.

"We're focused now on having a really good second half of the season.

"There are teams beating each other in our division and hopefully now we can move up into the top half of the table and push towards the top four."

Boosted by Wayne Masters' coaching from the sidelines, Colchester started well.

They opened up a two-goal lead in the opening stages, capitalising on the fact that Waltham Forest only started with ten men.

The visitors roared back and drew level at 2-2, only for Colchester to score twice more in the first half and take a 4-2 lead in at the break.

Colchester exerted their dominance in the second half with some good team play and proved too strong for the visitors.

Colchester's player of the match was Andy Ball, who impressed as the main central defender in their 3-4-3 system.

He made some key interceptions and helped to slow Waltham Forest's attacks down well, pushing them wide.

Tony Elston scored twice in Colchester II's 6-0 triumph at Waltham Forest III, in division five.

Rob Askam, Kaan Dikmen, Craig Handford and Hal Pearson were also on target.

Colchester's third team were also winners in the same division, with goals from James Fox and Dean Campbell sealing a 2-1 triumph over Witham III.

Colchester IV won 5-1 at Waltham Forest V, in division eight.
