DREY Wright says he and his Colchester United team-mates are on a “massive high” - and itching to get back in action on Saturday.

The U’s had a weekend off as a result of their first-round exit from this season’s FA Cup and do not play again until next weekend’s League Two clash at Mansfield Town.

However, their breather between games came on the back to two straight wins - in which they kept clean sheets in both and plundered seven goals.

And Wright says that following such a successful spell, the players cannot wait to get back in action and try and make it three in a row.

“We’d like another game as soon as possible,” said the midfielder, who scored in the U’s 4-0 victory against Crewe Alexandra.

“We’re all on a massive high so the quicker we can continue that the better.

“We’re in a really positive place and from my point of view, it was especially pleasing to come off the bench and score.

“It’s always nice to find the net and that’s my job in the team – to create goals and score them.

“The more I can do of that the better.”

Wright has hailed the impact of returning duo George Elokobi and Owen Garvan. Both played their parts in the victories at Cheltenham Town - which the U’s won 3-0 - and Crewe.

“The two of them have made a big difference,” said the 21-year-old.

“George has brought real stability to our backline. And Garvs has so much class and ability on the ball.

“It brings everyone’s composure levels up and makes a real difference in the middle of the pitch.”

Wright was delighted to play his part in the Crewe victory.

“It was really important to get another win,” he said.

“We kept another clean sheet and scored a load of goals, which is exactly what we needed after the run we’d been on.

“Our plan was to keep doing the right things and doing the basics correctly.

“And we knew that if we managed that, we’d be rewarded with another positive performance and that’s exactly what happened.”

Colchester under-23s are in action against their Derby County counterparts tonight, in the Premier League Cup (kick-off 7pm).
