COLCHESTER Rugby Club’s win-less start to the National League division three season continued as they lost 47-16 at home to Tonbridge Juddian, on Saturday.

The visitors took an early lead with a converted try, but the hosts replied with a penalty from number ten David Higgins.

Tonbridge extended their lead with an unconverted try but Higgins responded with another penalty.

However, the visitors stretched their lead after forcing their way over the try-line and the conversion made it 19-6.

Higgins added his third penalty of the afternoon but Tonbridge ended the first half with a flourish, scoring a converted try to make it 26-9.

They then extended their lead further with another try – capitalising on a loose pass early in the second half – and then another converted try made it 47-9.

Colchester refused to wave the white flag and a penalty try from James Crozier, which he slotted between the posts, made the final score 47-16.

The defeat was Colchester’s seventh in a row and they will hope to get off the mark in next weekend’s match at Westcliff.
