HARWICH Boxing Club welterweight Paul Gordon has progressed to this weekend's Elite Development Championships national semi-finals.

He continued his successful journey with victory over Aylesbury ABC's Jack Fitzgerald in the national quarter-finals at under-69 kilogramme category in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Harwich BC coach Martin Webb said: "Paul is currently enjoying a rich vein of form, with four fantastic victories in as many weeks.

"He always gives 100 per cent and is learning with every contest he undertakes.

"I'm confident with this momentum and form, he has every chance to make his first national final."

Gordon started at a furious pace, culminating in a vicious left hook which felled his opponent for a count.

The Harwich boxer kept the pressure up in rounds two and three with thunderous body punches paving the way to victory, via a unanimous points decision.

Gordon now takes his place in the national semi-finals along with his brother Rio, who is competing in the Junior Development Championships at Ipswich Town FC's Portman Road stadium on Saturday.
