HALSTEAD Road Runners’ Tom Porter jetted off to Denmark for the Copenhagen Half-Marathon and returned with a new personal best.

Having taken up running less than a year ago, it was only his second race over the 13.1 distance with a previous best time of one hour 45 minutes.

However months of training over the summer paid off as a delighted Porter finished in 1h 33m 32s.

Karl Hillman, Adam Buckle and Danni Evans also took on the Half-Marathon distance, but stayed a little closer to home in Ipswich.

Hillman and Buckle jostled for positions throughout the 13.1 mile course with Hillman pipping his Halstead team-mate by less than a minute on the line as they finished in 1h 54m 26s and 1h 55m 15s respectively.

Evans once again put in a strong performance to finish first for the club in 1h 48m 2s.

Meanwhile, Dan Smith completed the Kent Coyote Marathon - a 21-lap race around Gravesend Cyclopark that attracts a competitive field of athletes.

In humid conditions, Smith was disappointed to miss his PB by just one minute as he finished in 4h 16m 24s.

Nicole Smith ran the Ingatestone five-mile road race.

She only decided to race on the morning of the event, but a lack of preparation didn't stop her finishing 42m 2s.
