A CHEQUE for more than £3,100 was handed over to the Edith Elms Trust after a hugely successful quiz night at Frinton Cricket Club.

The Trust is the club's chosen charity this year in memory of the Betty Everson, who passed away last October and the mother of ex-Seasiders skipper Russ Everson.

It is the charitable arm of what is now Shorefields School in Clacton (formerly the Leas School and the Windsor School) and awards grants to the school, for youngsters with severe learning difficulties, towards equipment or resources that are not provided by local authority funding.

The school is currently fund raising towards a specialist trampoline and a sum of £3,119 was raised from the cricket club's annual quiz towards that.

Russ Everson was one of the quiz organisers and was delighted to be able to hand over the cheque after 150 people entered this year.

He said: "Many thanks to all the local companies and individuals who helped to raise this incredible sum of money."
