HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club hosted their annual Seniors' Open.

Sixty competitors from a variety of clubs took part and battled it out on the hosts' well-presented course.

Glen Davis (Waldringfield) and Steve Gray (Hintlesham) were the winners, with 43 points.

The runners-up were Steve Jewhurst and John Robinson (Seckford), with 42.

Alan Wilson and Frank Porter (Forrester Park) were third, with 41.

Nearest the pin was Peter Carter (Seckford), while nearest the pin from his second shot on the 17th was Brian Everett (Birch Grove).

Meanwhile, in the vets' August Basil Warner event, Steve Dow took top spot with 40 points, on countback from Michael Griggs.

Bernard Burrows was third, with 39.

This year's Ace Trophy ended up with four pairs of players with the same score - 41 points.

A play-off was needed to decide the winners and Jeff Murray and Bob Dean managed to overcome Chris Day and Alan Scott.

He won on the first extra hole in a sudden-death third match.

In joint-third place, on 40 points, were Sean O'Hara and Bernie Henderson and Graham Pomfrett and Jim Gerbi.

Harwich's seniors played a match at Maldon and lost 6-2.
