JEFF Johnson and Michael O’Sullivan secured a countback win in Colchester Golf Club's Foursomes Cup.

Johnson and O’Sullivan got the nod over Mickey Potter and Jim Wilkinson and the pairing of Don McBurney and Iain Cruickshank.

All three pairs returned a score of plus two in one of golf’s more testing formats, foursomes bogey, with eight pairs within a hole of each other.

The five pairs on a score of plus one were John Redden and John Dornan, Paul Smith and Kevin Brett, Paul Bishop and John Williams along with Steve Sharman and new member Mark Weale.

Presented in the early 1940s, the Foursomes Cup is the pinnacle of Colchester’s foursome competitions.

Jan Murray shaved three shots from her 28 handicap when she won Colchester GC's ladies Medal with an impressive nett score of 68.

She was five shots better than second-placed Philippa Deman (eight), who was adjudged second after a countback from Fiona Rose (27) and Joan Cotterill (26), all of whom had nett 73s.

Patricia Walker (26) was a stand-alone fourth, with nett 74.

The Vets added to their home victories with a fine 5&3 win over Felixstowe Ferry.

It took their number of victories for the year so far to nine, with five losses and two matches drawn.

Colchester GC's men’s Norman Plum high handicap county competition got a zero result against a Stoke team, with the final result 6-0.

The club's Jubilee Cup team received a reprieve and are through to the knockout stages, after Bentley Golf Club were withdrawn for playing an illegal player.

Colchester GC's ladies Silver Trophy team are awaiting the result of the Warley Park-Gosfield match to discover whether they have qualified.

They had had mixed fortunes in the league, losing 4&1 to Rayleigh with two of the games going to the 18th and one to the 21st and then winning 5&0 against Gosfield.

In a Walk-on-Stableford Michael Berry (20) recorded 39 points to take top spot ahead of Geoff Lawrenson (14).

Lawrenson finished on 36 points, along with Lewis Barber (5) and Trevor Vaughan (25).

In a Vets Stableford competition, David Watts (15) returned 38 points to win from Tim Rogers (9) on 37.

Peter Robinson (14) had a handicap-equalling 36 points, to complete the leaderboard.
