ROGER Farson reigned supreme in the rain as the seniors of the Essex Golf and Country Club held their Monthly Medal competition.

On a damp but warm morning, 28 players competed off the white tees and taking third, with a nett 74, was 11-handicapper Adrian Grubb.

Second place, on nett 73, went to 17-handicapper Ron Thayre, but no-one could match Farson, whose nett 71 meant his handicap was cut from 20 to 19.

Nearest the pin on the par three 150 yard 11th hole was Gary Lunn.

The day before, the club's seniors had travelled to Fynn Valley in Ipswich for a friendly match.

On a much drier day, the hosts managed a 5-3 win against their Essex visitors.

Nearest the pin on the par three sixth hole was Essex player Ian Dunbar.
