THE ladies of Forrester Park Golf Club dodged the storms to claim victory against Warley Park in the Harris Bowl.

With the help of their caddies keeping their clubs dry, the Forrester Park team won the first three matches and hung on for a 3-2 win.

Forrester Park's men played a strong team from Braintree in the third round of the Essex County Thornton Cup.

At lunch, after the foursomes matches, the score was 3-2 in favour of Braintree and hopes were high that home advantage would enable this deficit to be overtaken in the afternoon singles.

However Braintree had the greater strength in depth and won seven of the ten matches to record a 10-5 victory.

Meanwhile, the ladies' competition, sponsored by Century Office, was won by Margaret Tristan with a nett 74.

Hilda Hazell took second-place on countback from Diana Ketley after both had nett 80s.

The vets played a mystery team game, which was won by Dick Groves, Alf Hill, David Chapman and David Ayres with nett 27.

Ron Wimpress, Tom Nugent, John Avery and David Skeggs took second place with nett 30.

The men’s Sunday competition was for the Fletcher Trophy, a bogey competition.

Although most of the field struggled with the format, Peter Andrews returned a score of +4 to win from Brian Corderoy, who had +3, and Donald Grimsey.
