THERE was another good turnout for Maldon Cycling Club's Tuesday evening ten-mile time trial on the E21/10 course but none of the home club's riders could match the in-form Adrian Tovey.

He finished as Maldon’s fastest rider on the night with a time of 22 minutes 58 seconds, closely followed by Hamish Hore and James Farren with times of 23m 17s and 23m 25s respectively.

Fastest rider on the night was Myles Hilbery, of Essex Roads CC, with a time of 22m 50s.

Fastest female was Maldon’s Rebecca Hammond in 28m 57s, with the fastest junior being Harry Wood of Maldon with a time of 25m 15.

Attentions then turned to the British Best All Rounder Open 50 event hosted by Maldon and District on the E21/50 course.

Inclement weather overnight reduced the field down from 78 to 60 starters and ensured that several punctures were caused during the event.

Only two riders managed to complete the course in under two hours with Teamvelocity’s Andrew Leggett finishing in one hour 56m with an average speed of 25mph.

The only other rider to finish under the two-hour mark was Gary Turnock of Finsbury Park CC in a time of 1h 59m.

Tovey was again the fastest Maldon rider home in 2h 2m, while Gill Carter, of Essex Roads CC, was the fastest female in 2h 15m.

A special mention must be given to Allman Fowler of Maldon, who, despite suffering double punctures, continued to complete the course in a respectable time of three hours flat.

Thanks were given to Colin Edmond for putting the event on and all the marshals, time keepers and the crew at the Steeple Village Hall headquarters.
