CLACTON Golf Club captain Nick Smith and his team travelled to Stoke-by-Nayland for the return leg of their annual 36-hole match.

Clacton were leading 5½-2½ after the first game and they went on to win the Lost Cup for 2016.

Results: Match one - Nick Smith and John Crick lost 3&1 against Ian Thompson and Don Wiggins; Match two - Martin Penelve and Steve Chignell won one-up against Julian Lamb and Steve Clarke; Match three - John Willson and Ray Fage halved with Bob Tokely and Dick Chalmers; Match four - Alan Price and Terry Hewitt halved with Steve Hewitt and Dave Wilson; Match five - Ian Neal and Keith Sampson won two-up against Jaz Wiggins and Phil Stevens; Match six - Brain Vasey and Gordon Pryke lost 6&5 against Neil Farmer and Eric Fisher; Match seven - Simon Smith and Paul Ottee lost 7&5 against Ian Snall and Dave Wyllie; Match eight - Dave Gilbert and Laurie Farrugia lost 3&2 against Ross Buchanan and Michael Isom.

Meanwhile, Clacton's Essex Golf Union Youth Shield team travelled to Benton Hall for the second match of 2016 Youth Shield League.

Results: Match one - Ben Rendell lost 3&1 against Rachel Casey; Match two - Katy Yates won 6&5 against Nathian Morris; Match three - Riley Faulkner lost one-down against Josh Draper; Match four - Josh Bethell won 5&4 against Thomas Rodrigues.

In match five, Wilf Elliott was three-down with four holes to play but dug deep, winning the next three holes.

On the 18th tee, the match was level.

Both players drove well and, after good second shots, it was down to putting.

Benton Hall's Dominic Hoskin putted and missed.

Elliott then lined up his putt and the ball went straight in the hole for a great fightback, to secure a 3-2 victory for Clacton.

Clacton's Essex Golf Union L F Wood Trophy team manager Steve Parkes welcomed Maldon for their second-round match.

The Clacton team of Josh Bethell, Jordon Price, Craig Green, Darren Seargin, Colin Ross, Brady Diplock, Adam Stringer, Rich Hart, Lee Harmon and Clayton Jeffrey had a good day, winning the morning foursomes 5-0 and losing the afternoon singles 6-4.

Overall they were 9-6 winners.

In the third round, Clacton are at home to Stableford Abbott on Sunday, June 12.

Clacton's ladies played their May Salver on Tuesday morning.

Returning a winning score of 101-21-80 was Heather Bradfield, on countback from second-placed Angela Barratt with 106-26-80.

In third place was Di Kedge, with 101-20-81.

Clacton's seniors travelled to Gosfield Lake for their annual away match and the team was captain Tony Burnside, Ray Crossfield, Chris Marshall, Geoff Manning, John Willson, Brian Clark, vice-captain John Kemp, Bill Clarke, Malcolm Pitcher, John Wacker, Peter Wiggins, Derek Woodrow, Robert Gillespie, Don Dunham, Bill Davey and Robin Routh had an interesting days golf on the well presented Gosfield course, followed by a very pleasant lunch, as for the match, Clacton lost eight nil.
